Ocean Park x Jazz World Live Series 2018-19 Swings into November with Jazz Evenings Featuring Leading International and Local Jazz Musicians

2018-10-28

Following the mesmerising performance of Stacey Kent in September, Ocean Park announces the second round line-up of Ocean Park x Jazz World Live Series 2018-19, with leading lights from the international and local jazz scene to appear at the Park in November. The  pioneer of contemporary jazz and legendary ‘Captain Fingers’ Lee Ritenour, along with his long-time collaborator Dave Grusin, a rare musician who is equally talented as a pianist, composer, arranger and producer, will make their long-awaited Hong Kong debut together at Applause Pavilion on 21 November. Additionally, over three consecutive Saturday evenings of 10, 17 and 24 November, exciting jazz acts from Hong Kong will take turns to perform at the lagoon stage of Lakeside Chill.

On 17 November, guests will be taken back by the fast tempo, instrument virtuosity and stunning improvisation of Hong Kong’s most in-demand names in jazz – Eugene Pao, Ted Lo, Jun Kung and Tsang Tak Hong – who will appear as Eugene Pao Group on stage in an alfresco setting.

Emerging local jazz talent and violinist Sharon Lui who heads up the HK Gypsy Jazz Collective will perform on 10 November. Inspired by Parisian violinist Stephane Grappelli and Belgian-Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt, Sharon became the only violinist in Hong Kong dedicated to gypsy jazz despite coming  from the world of classical music.

Accomplished jazz vocalist and former Miss Malaysia Universe Sherine will close the jazz month as a  duo with Eugene Pao in the evening of 24 November, filling the night with jazz renditions of originals and covers in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

“It is a great honour to have Grammy-award winners Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin to conduct their first-ever live performance in Hong Kong at Ocean Park, and continue the international appeal of Ocean Park x Jazz World Live Series 2018-19.  We take great pride in supporting local jazz culture and performances, and hope to transform the Park into a new landmark for appreciating jazz by having Hong Kong’s established jazz musicians and notable acts to perform at the Park,” said Vivian Lee, Executive Director for Business Development & Education, Ocean Park.

For a more holistic experience at the Ocean Park x Jazz World Live Series 2018-19, guests can also indulge in a jazz-themed dinner, Jazz Menu, specially designed by Ocean Park at Neptune’s Restaurant on 21 November. The three-course dinner is inspired by local dishes from the birthplace of jazz – New Orleans, and paired with a selection of fine champagne, and red and white wine to tantalise diner’s senses. For concert-goers running short of time, the Lakeside Chill bar offers a Lakeside Jazz Combo that comes with a Lakeside cocktail served in a special jazz-themed upright bottle, available on 10, 17, 21 and 24 November.
