Ocean Park’s New Mascot Later Gator is in Town! Introducing Hong Kong’s First Animal Maze Display at Harbour City

2009-03-31

(31 March 2009 – Hong Kong) Amazing Asian Animals, the first major attraction under Ocean Park’s HK$5.55 billion Master Redevelopment Plan to be completed, is set to open on 30 April. To give the public and guests from around the world an early glimpse of the attraction’s animal ambassadors, Ocean Park will be showcasing Hong Kong’s first animal-themed maze display at Harbour City, from now till 19 April. Later Gator, the Park’s “newborn” mascot, made its public debut at the maze today, accompanied by other members of the Ocean Park mascot family, Whiskers and Chief.

Adventure-seekers can find the maze at the Ocean Terminal Forecourt, Harbour City, Tsimshatsui.    Other than life-sized figures of all the animal ambassadors of Amazing Asian Animals, such as giant pandas, red pandas, Chinese giant salamanders, Chinese alligators, Asian small-clawed otters, birds and goldfish, there are also interesting commentary on the characteristics, habitats and conservation insights about these precious Asian animals.

Ocean Park’s newest mascot, Later Gator, an icon for the Chinese alligators, will also make special matinee appearances on 4, 5, 11 and 12 April with Whiskers and the Ocean Park clowns at KidX at Harbour City.  They will create lots of fun with boisterous performances and interactions with the audience, who will have the chance to win exclusive Ocean Park souvenirs if they are quick with the right answers to quizzes!

Ocean Park’s Executive Director, Sales & Marketing Paul Pei said, “Ocean Park and Harbour City are two of the must-go attractions in Hong Kong, as we share a strong popularity with both the locals and overseas visitors alike.  We are very excited about bringing Ocean Park’s Amazing Asian Animals to Harbour City, so we can begin to get even more connected with our guests! “

Amazing Asian Animals is eight-attractions-in-one-themed-area, with Giant Panda Adventure, where rare species such as the giant panda, red panda, Chinese giant salamander, Asian small-clawed otter and Chinese alligator reside. Closely following is the world’s first and only stand-alone goldfish exhibit in a theme park, Goldfish Treasures.  It features the world’s largest collection of over 300 goldfish of all shapes, sizes and colours, including the largest goldfish variety in the world. The Amazing Bird Show will also return with a new facade.

To give guests a totally immersive experience in this area, Amazing Asian Animals will also present the future Waterfront area’s first dining and banquet facility – Panda Cafe – which features a host of popular Southeast Asian dishes, including signature Sichuan cuisines, and the Park’s first themed and largest signature souvenir shop, Panda Kingdom Shop, which is brimming with over 5,000 animal-themed items in over 350 styles.
