Ocean Park Clinches ‘Gold Award for Outstanding Exhibit’ at Hong Kong Flower Show 2010 with a Colorful Display of Biodiversity

2010-03-21

(Hong Kong – 19 March 2010) Hong Kong Flower Show 2010 kicked off at Victoria Park today with Ocean Park again showcasing a unique floral display to illustrate its own Fairy Tales of Flowers, the theme in this year’s festival. The Park celebrated the diverse life forms on earth through its distinctive exhibit and was awarded the ‘Gold Award for Outstanding Exhibit’. Mrs. Selina Tsang, wife of the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, officiated today’s opening ceremony and visited Ocean Park’s display, while Ocean Park’s Executive Director of Operations Alan Chan and fellow colleagues attended to pay tribute to the Park’s Landscaping team.

Ocean Park’s floral arrangements echo its mission of connecting people with nature, as a kaleidoscope of topiaries are unveiled in two complimenting landscape zones, set against a dynamic waterfall. On land, we have giant pandas and a red panda crafted from Alternanthera bettzickiana and Cuphea hyssopifolia flowers while whales, sea lions and sea jellies sculpted from Begonia and Portulaca grandiflora flowers represent boundless marine life, displaying the symbiotic link between various life forms that breathes life into our planet.

'Ocean Park’s exhibit is made up of 4,000 plants in 20 flower species and 35 types of shrubbery and trees. We are very happy to receive the Gold Award for Outstanding Exhibit this year and I just want to say a big thank you to our Landscaping team and fellow colleagues for their work and support. Hopefully, visitors will enjoy the precious plants such as Alsophila spinulosa, Gymnosphaera podophylla, Brainea insignis, Solanum mammosum and Euphorbia tirucalli on show. By taking good care of our animals and plants as well as their habitats, we can preserve the beauty of nature for a long time to come. Just come to Ocean Park and you will see how our life forms dovetail beautifully with each another in great harmony,’ said Winnie Cheng, Landscaping Manager of Ocean Park.

Ocean Park’s Executive Director of Operations, Mr. Alan Chan, said, “I am proud of the outstanding creations by the “green thumbs” of our Landscaping team every year. Ocean Park is committed to connecting guests with nature by inspiring them through our animal ambassadors, as well as the colorful and unique landscape displays all over the Park. We always match our selections with the four seasons, as well as with our five annual events. In fact, many guests like to pose in front of our landscape displays, which have also become spectacular photo-ops throughout the year!”

The Hong Kong Flower Show 2010 is organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and will be held from 19 to 28 March 2010 at Hong Kong Victoria Park. For enquiries, please call Ocean Park’s customer hotline at 3923 2323.
