2015-12-18

Ocean Park today announced a new pricing structure that will take effect on 1 January 2016, with a two-month grace period for local residents. The current SmartFun Annual pass prices will remain unchanged. Ocean Park will continue to donate significant sums to support conservation projects and maintain its industry-leading portfolio of community care programmes, which benefited over 470,000 Hong Kong people during the 2014/15 fiscal year. Among the Park’s most significant community care programmes are birthday free admission and free year-round entry for senior citizens and people with disabilities. Welcoming its 39th anniversary, Ocean Park will extend birthday free entry to the entire birthday week during January 2016 and offer 30% discount on admission tickets for up to four companions. As part of Ocean Park’s participation in the “Appreciate Hong Kong” campaign initiated by the Government, 10,000 people from low-income families will enjoy free admission, along with transportation and lunch, starting this month until May 2016.

Under the new pricing structure taking effect on 1 January 2016, daytime admission ticket for adult and child (aged 3-11) will be HK$385 and HK$193 respectively, amounting to an increase of HK$40 and $20. Hong Kong residents can enjoy the current admission prices (HK$345 and HK$173) until 29 February 2016. Remaining unchanged is the pricing for SmartFun annual passes, which consistently hold a unique appeal to local families.

Mr. Leo Kung, Chairman of Ocean Park, said, “The Board of Directors and Management have worked hard to minimise the price adjustment, which is driven by the need to provide financial support for increasing operating expenses, necessary capital investments to enhance guest experience, and ongoing debt servicing obligations. As a self-financing, not-for-profit organisation, our pricing must be sustainable for our operation and growth while remaining competitive against comparable world-class facilities.”

Mr. Kung added, “Being Hong Kong People’s Park, Ocean Park continues to offer the largest portfolio of community care programmes among comparable theme parks worldwide, with over 470,000 beneficiaries and a community benefit valued at HK$140.0 million during the past fiscal year alone. Specifically, over 130,000 local seniors had a fun-filled day at the Park for free; and over 21,000 local residents with disabilities enjoyed free admission while nearly 10,000 accompanying care providers entered at half price. Our free birthday entry remained the most popular, with over 145,000 beneficiaries during the same period. Other programmes include: $20 admission for individuals and members of families receiving assistance from the CSSA Scheme and generously discounted tickets for students visiting on school tours.”

Entering its 39th year of growth alongside Hong Kong people, Ocean Park will offer those celebrating their birthday in January 2016 free entry during the seven-day period beginning with their birthday and the exclusive option of purchasing tickets for four companions at 30% discount.  In support of the Government’s “Appreciate Hong Kong” campaign, Ocean Park is partnering with Chinachem Group to give 10,000 people from low-income families the opportunity to enjoy a visit to the Park, with Ocean Park offering free admission while Chinachem Group providing for transportation and lunch.

As a leading conservation advocate in the region, Ocean Park donates a portion of its admission revenue and panda merchandise sales proceeds, a percentage of revenue from F&B and animal encounter programmes, plus the entirety of admission revenue from its annual Conservation Day to Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong (OPCFHK). During the 2014/15 fiscal year alone, the Park donated HK$13.3 million to the OPCFHK, which not only funds critically needed conservation studies and projects across Asia, but also support cetacean stranding rescue and response, the conservation of local species such as horseshoe crab and seahorses, and more. Ocean Park also directly contributes to conservation by making available its animal care expertise for government efforts and spearheading initiatives such as its 3-year Blue Matters campaign to promote public awareness and inspire everyday action.

Ocean Park also fulfils its corporate social responsibility by supporting local education. During the 2014/15 fiscal year, over 53,000 local students ranging from kindergarten to senior secondary took part in some 1,600 education courses offered by Ocean Park Academy, Hong Kong (OPAHK). Since the inception of the Park’s education programmes in 1992, close to 800,000 students have taken part in different courses to learn about conservation.

Ocean Park’s new pricing structure remains an exceptional value. Since the completion of the tremendously successful six-year Master Redevelopment Plan, which brought to Hong Kong in 2012 the Applause Award, the most prestigious international accolade in the industry, Ocean Park continued to add new world-class attractions, including Shark Mystique and Adventures in Australia, which opened in June 2014 and March 2015 respectively. While these new attractions further enriched guest experience and our educational offerings, they have also increased the Park’s operating expenses.

Ocean Park is also making steady progress in its transformation into an international destination resort with a number of development projects, including the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel, the new Water World, the installation of a park-wide Wi-Fi network, and the redevelopment of the existing kid’s zone Whiskers Harbour.

Mr. Kung added, “We encourage Hong Kong people to visit us during the coming holiday season to take advantage of the pre-adjustment ticket prices available from now until the end of the grace period in February 2016.
