Ocean Park Lunar Lucky Fiesta Features Hong Kong’s Tallest Spinning Lantern and Taiwan’s Award-winning Folk Drum Troup Chinese New Year Deluxe Platter & Taiwanese Snacks Welcome Year of the Snake

(Hong Kong – 21 January 2013) To celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Snake, Ocean Park will present its ann/ual Lunar Lucky Fiesta, featuring performances by Taiwan’s award-winning Chio-Tian Folk Drums and Arts Group, as well as a 12-metre, Hong Kong’s tallest spinning lantern. The Park is also introducing a series of delicious dishes themed on the Year of the Snake, including Deluxe Platter, Deluxe Mini Poon Choi (Big Bowl Feast), Mandarin Macaroons, and various popular Taiwanese snacks. With this year’s Valentine’s Day falling within the Chinese New Year period, Ocean Park not only designed a special Valentine’s Set Dinner Menu (13-14 February), but will also present a number of creative offerings, including setting up different romantic photo hotspots; having Park mascots present a delightful surprise to one’s sweetheart; and spending time together with an animal ambassador for a unique Valentine’s experience. Also, Ocean Park will hold a Speed Dating event on Chinese Valentine’s Day (24 February), providing matchmaking opportunities for single people.

Mr. Nick Lee, Senior Food and Beverage Operations Manager said, “Ocean Park’s food and beverage operations has an excellent 2012, recording a 10% year-on-year increase. With the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we continue to combine creative elements into traditional dishes to offer a number of cusines to help guests celebrate the New Year. We expect to see a 10% year-on-year increase in revenue from our food and beverage operations during the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s period.''

Mr. Gavin Lam, Senior Retail Operations Manager also said, “Last year, Ocean Park’s retail business saw a 30% increase. To complement the many new attractions that opened last year, we introduced 1,200 new merchandise items, taking the total number of retail items we carry to over 3,000, giving our guests even more choices in souvenirs and gifts. We expect our retail business will maintain a double-digit increase over this coming year.”
 
Enjoy Auspicious Dishes Combining Creativity and Diverse Flavours, Taiwanese Snacks and New Year Themed Merchandise

To enhance the festive atmosphere during the Chinese New Year period, Ocean Park is introducing a 6-course feast for four people (available at HK$1,280), featuring Deluxe Platter, Braised Pork Knuckle with Bean Paste, Mandarin Macaroons and more.*  As the Chinese New Year period is a peak season for leisure travel, Ocean Park specifically incorporated the cuisines of different countries in the Deluxe Platter, including Thai Style Fish Cake, Chicken Skewer with Lemon Grass, Braised Beef Shin in Soya Sauce, etc. Matching this year’s Chinese zodiac sign, every item is presented in the shape of a snake.

Welcoming the Chio-Tian Folk Drums and Arts Group from Taiwan, Ocean Park specifically introduced various Taiwanese snacks, including popular street foods like Taiwanese Fried Chicken Fillet, Oil Noodle in Soup with Braised Minced Pork, Deep Fried Bean Curd with Pickled Cabbage, Stir Fried Egg Plant with Minced Pork and Thai Basil. Guests can savour these wonderful Taiwanese treats while enjoying the spectacular drumming performances by the Chio-Tian Folk Drums and Arts Group.

As traditional Chinese foods are indispensable for celebrating the arrival of the Year of the Snake, Ocean Park has chosen a number of premium ingredients, including scallops, mussels and sea whelk, to be paired with barbecued meats prepared on-site for Deluxe Mini Poon Choi (Big Bowl Feast). The Park has also prepared different Chinese New Year delights, such as the original and wholesome Osmanthus and Red Dates Pudding, filled and topped with bird’s nest and decorated with gold flakes. The Park also developed a refreshing Red Bean and Sesame Pudding, which symbolizes prosperity and is perfect for seasonal gifting.

As well, Ocean Park has introduced 100 festive merchandise items, including an adorable DIY Paper Windmill, a Reversible Chinese Style Jacket, Snake-Year-themed T-shirts, and pen holders and t-shirts themed on Old Hong Kong. In addition to purchasing festive retail items, guests can also win at game booths adorable plush toys themed on the mandarin orange, the snake, the carp, the golden pig and more.

To celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Snake, Ocean Park will present its annual Lunar Lucky Fiesta during 9 - 24 February. In addition to enjoying performances by Taiwan’s award-winning Chio-Tian Folk Drums and Arts Group, guests can admire Golden Harmony Lantern, Hong Kong’s tallest traditional Chinese spinning lantern, and enter the God of Fortune Palace to take home a red packet for a lucky start of the year. There will also be lanterns themed on the Park’s beloved animal ambassadors for the entire family to take New Year photos. As well, Old Hong Kong will play host to the Forever Golden Street Party, where classic movie characters will bring to life festive scenes from the 50’s and 60’s.

Neptune’s Restaurant Offers 5-Course Valentine’s Set Dinner Menu; Opens Exclusive Locations for Couple to Pledge their Love

Ocean Park is offering to have Whiskers express guests’ romantic feelings to their other half; whilst the Park’s chef has sourced ingredients from around the world to create a thoughtfully designed Valentine’s Set Dinner. The Park will also introduce retail items themed on tender affections – all aimed at immersing guests in a heartwarming atmosphere when celebrating Valetine’s Day at Ocean Park.

Ocean Park has always been a favourite destination for lovebirds. During 2012 alone, over 40 park guests have successfully proposed to their other half, with a success rate of 100%; whilst 36 couples tied the knot at the Park. Among the Park’s many attractions, Dolphin Encounter and Neptune’s Restaurant are particularly popular for making marriage proposals. In light of this, the Park has specifically created marriage proposal certificates, which entitle couples to enjoy discounts of up to HK$9,000 when booking wedding banquets at the Park in the future.

As well, Ocean Park has created a number of romantic programmes for this Valentine’s Day, including a set dinner menu featuring ingredients sourced from all over the world, including prosciutto from Italy, asparagus from the U.S. and black truffles, at HK$1,338 (with 10% service charge) for two.** Starting the dinner with a glass of Kir Royal cocktail, followed by First Love (Dill Cured Salmon on Toast with Prosciutto and Asparagus), Careless Whisper (Fried Bacon and Cheese Fingers with Mango, Avocado and Garden Greens, served with Aged Balsamic Vinaigrette) and Forever Young (Cream of Cauliflower with Chicken Dumplings) as appetisers. Sweet Dream (Mango and Mint Sherbet) cleanses the palate before the main course, for which guests can choose between Sea of Love (Oven Baked Marinated Sea Bass with Champagne Sauce, Pea Puree, Potato Croquettes and Seasonal Vegetables) and Love Me Tender (US Tenderloin with Truffle Jus, Pea Puree, Potato Croquettes and Seasonal Vegetables). For dessert, there is Endless Love (Chocolate Mousse with Raspberry Coulis and Bamboo Charcoal Cookies). Guests can pre-arrange to have their message of love etched on the chocolate praline. The Valentine’s Day Set Dinner is also available as a HK$1,688 package which includes the Valentine’s Day Set Dinner (inclusive of 10% service charge), a 5R-sized photo and two admission tickets. While enjoying the Valentine’s set dinner, guests can also pre-arrange to have a diver display a message of love while submerged inside the Grand Aquarium, or have Whiskers present flowers to their sweetheart, offering the couple an unforgettable Valentine’s experience.

Catering to those who wish to present a romantic surprise to their sweatheart, Ocean Park is presenting a number of romantic photo hotspots: up on the Ferris Wheel, inside the cable car, at the Bayview Restaurant against the setting sun, aboard the heritage tramcar, and more. The Park has also arranged for mascots like Whiskers and Swift, as well as animal ambassadors such as dolphins and penguins, to present a sweat surprise to lovers for an extra special Valentine’s Day.

Last but not least, Ocean Park will host a Speed Dating event on Chinese Valentine’s Day (24 February) for 50 pairs of single people to aquaint themselves with others through different fun activities and help them find their match.
