Giant Pandas Ying Ying and Le Le Gear Up For Their First Lunar New Year In Hong Kong

2008-01-28

(27 January 2008, Hong Kong) To usher in the Year of the Rat, Ocean Park specially prepared “dumpling” shaped and “glutinous rice cake” shaped traditional festive foods for the giant pandas, Ying Ying, Le Le, An An and Jia Jia. These festive foods are a mixture of high fibre biscuits, carrots and water (photo 1). Pictured here: giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le showed curiosity in the new objects by touching and smelling them (photo 2), and devoured them in less than three minutes (photo 3)!

Please come to “Ocean Park Lunar Lucky Fiesta” to join the giant pandas Ying Ying, Le Le, An An and Jia Jia, to celebrate the Lunar New Year from 2 to 17 February.

These two young pandas were gifts from the Central People’s Government of China to the people of Hong Kong to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Since their arrival in Hong Kong on 26 April 2007, they have been staying at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Giant Panda Habitat in Ocean Park, joining the two other giant pandas, An An and Jia Jia, who have been the conservation ambassadors at Ocean Park since 1999.

The video of giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le enjoying festive foods has been uploaded on the Ocean Park Giant Pandas blog: http://www.oceanpark.com.hk/panda/blog.asp?lang=en
