FAMILY FUN DAY AT OCEAN PARK FOR HONG KONG ATHLETES FOR BEIJING 2008 OLYMPIC GAMES AND BEIJING 2008 PARALYMPIC GAMES

(Hong Kong – 28 September 2008) Ocean Park welcomed over 60 guests today, including 14 athletes representing Hong Kong for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, as well as the team officials, and their families, for a family fun day and to celebrate and recognise the efforts and achievements of the Hong Kong teams. The Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Carrie Yau, joined Ocean Park’s Chief Executive, Mr Tom Mehrmann, Deputy Chief Executive Mr. Matthias Li, as well as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, Mrs. Jenny Fung, to meet and greet the athletes.

Mr Mehrmann said, “We are really proud of the athletes who worked so hard to represent Hong Kong at the Olympics and Paralympics held in Beijing. As Hong Kong’s People’s Park, we want to show our respect and appreciation for all the athletes and the team officials by hosting a family fun day, and enabling a chance for them to connect with nature, right here at Ocean Park.” Ocean Park presented to all athletes on the Hong Kong teams, including those who were unable to attend, special souvenirs and F&B /Retail coupons, as well as Smart Fun Annual Passes for the Olympic athletes.

The attached photo shows the athletes representing Hong Kong in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, with (in the centre) the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Carrie Yau, Ocean Park’s Chief Executive, Mr. Tom Mehrmann, Deputy Chief Executive Mr. Matthias Li, as well as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, Mrs. Jenny Fung. Joining them were three of Ocean Park’s mascots and ambassadors from the Bird Department, all of whom were there to meet and greet the special guests.
