Fun Facts

  • Romer's tree frogs are the smallest frogs found in Hong Kong. These frogs camouflage well in fallen leaves and bushes and are mostly active at night, making it hard for humans to spot.

  • While they are "tree frogs", their toe pads aren't well built for long periods of climbing. They generally stay near the forest floor.

      Invasive Species & Diseases

    During the construction of the Hong Kong International Airport, it was discovered that the site was a vital habitat for these frogs. To protect this endemic species, the government at the time worked with experts to relocate most of the frogs there to various country parks across Hong Kong. However, recent surveys suggested that there is a population decline in various areas. Invasive frog species were also found in their habitats that might compete with Romer's tree frogs for resources.
