Threats

  • Urbanisation & Infrastructure

  • Invasive Species & Diseases

During the construction of the Hong Kong International Airport, it was discovered that the site was a vital habitat for these frogs. To protect this endemic species, the government at the time worked with experts to relocate most of the frogs there to various country parks across Hong Kong. However, recent surveys suggested that there is a population decline in various areas. Invasive frog species were also found in their habitats that might compete with Romer's tree frogs for resources.
