Threats or Importance

  • Overexploitation of Biological Resources

Chittagong Chickrassy is a pioneer species, capable of growing in poor soils or degraded environments. It can attract animals and other plants, thus helping to restore the habitat. In some parts of Asia, it is considered to have medicinal value. For example, its leaves can be used to treat skin ulcers and have properties that repel insects. In addition, extracts from its bark are used to treat diarrhea and reduce fever. However, lumbering has led to overexploitation of these trees. Their populations have declined to an extent that they have become endangered in some countries, such as Vietnam.
