"Connecting Students with Nature through STEAM" Programme 2019-2020 Application Result
Overview
In 2019/20 academic year, Ocean Park will continue the "Connecting Students with Nature through STEAM" Programme. A total of 10,000 students from kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools will embark on a STEAM learning journey and will be connected with the nature through a free visit at Ocean Park with their teachers. The Programme will also offer exciting extension activities, including practical sessions where students will have a chance to implement their creative ideas, as well as comprehensive teacher support with instructional resources and workshops. Students and teachers of schools selected for this Programme will be visiting Ocean Park from 1st September 2019 to 30th June 2020.
Application Result
A total of 143 Kindergartens and Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centres, 105 primary schools and 82 secondary schools have submitted their applications to the Park. Judging was based on the achievements of nature-related and STEAM-related activities organised by the schools and their future plans related to the Park, as laid out in the school proposals. With a view to encouraging teachers to share their experiences of STEAM education, their proposed involvement in the Parallel Sessions of "The First Ocean Park International STEAM Education Conference 2019" was also part of the judging criteria.
Among the applications, 15 Kindergartens and Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centres, 24 primary schools and 26 secondary schools have been selected and a total of 10,296 students will participate in the Programme. Schools will receive the number of student group tickets and complimentary tickets for teachers for which they have applied. Students can experience a unique learning adventure and be connected with nature through a free visit to Ocean Park on the date that they have chosen.
Ocean Park will be inviting all selected secondary schools to participate in the “Practical STEAM Student Ambassador Scheme”. This Scheme encourages students to integrate skills and knowledge learnt from STEAM education and different school subjects, and to apply them in designing environmental enrichment installations for the animals of Ocean Park.
